Wildfire Awareness Week 2015

Our 2015 event was a great success – we thank our partner groups for engaging presentations and the citizens of Island Park and West Yellowstone for stopping by to participate. This year, join us on Pioneer Day Weekend!

DATE: July 22nd

TIME: 3:00 PM

LIVING WITH WILDLIFE

Join the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, Idaho Fish & Game and the Caribou Targhee National Forest to learn about Yellowstone’s grizzly bears. Learn about food waste storage in grizzly country, using bear spray and how to protect and conserve one of Yellowstone’s most iconic animals.

FREE BBQ

Event located in Last Chance next to the Trout Hunter.

TIME: 7:00 PM

Forest Insects and Disease

Join Carl Jorgenson, Entomologist with the US Forest Service, to learn about the ecology and life cycle of the insects and diseases that inhabit our forests.

Event will take place at the Flat Ranch Preserve located on Highway 20, 5 miles north of Mack’s Inn, Island Park.

TIME: 9:00 AM-2:00 PM

VENDOR DISPLAYS

Educational booths will be in place offering information on fire safe landscaping techniques and IPSFC Hazardous Fuels Reduction and Slash Removal programs.

Event will be held in Island Park Village right on Highway 20 in the location of the former Connie’s Restaurant.

WILDFIRE AND HOME OWNERS INSURANCE

Join Tim Stronks from Farm Bureau Insurance to learn what you need to know about home owners insurance and wildfire.

Event will take place at the Flat Ranch Preserve located on Highway 20, 5 miles north of Mack’s Inn, Island Park.

The likelihood of a confirmed “bear” sighting is very high this day as “Smokey Bear” will be making appearances and helping firefighters spread the word about the area’s fire potential and how “Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires”…..

Event will be held at the US Forest Service Island Park Ranger Station on the banks of the Buffalo River near Pond’s Lodge.
